Cut is King

Cut is what most affects a diamonds final look, and the only one that humans have a hand in – if a diamond isn’t cut well, it will simply never look good. The highest cut grade is Excellent, and we would always recommend choosing this top grade.

Colourless is Best

The next most important metric is colour – maintaining a high colour grade is always a recommended option.

The thing to remember about colour grades is that the difference between each is very subtle, so it is perfectly acceptable to choose an H colour diamond, but the higher the better.

Ensure it is free from Visible Inclusions

Nearly all diamonds have inclusions, it’s the level of these inclusions that determines a diamonds clarity. Guthrie’s never sells diamonds in which inclusions are visible with the naked eye, bear in mind nearly all diamonds do have inclusions.

Certification Matters

The only way to ensure your diamond is of the standard you expect is to ensure your diamond has a certificate by GIA, GIA, or the Gemmological Institute of America use a strict set of standards to grade a diamond and are the only laboratory to consistently grade diamonds with perfect accuracy.

Key point: Every Guthrie’s diamond above half a carat comes with a GIA certificate.
