Our Mission

At Guthrie's we believe an item of jewellery should be an heirloom - a treasure that is handed down through generations telling the story of day's gone by.

Creating a Better Place for the Next Generation

Jewellery has for millennia been a way for families to hold wealth and pass this through generations, as jewellers we see this as our historic role – to help you our customers create a legacy of your own.

We don’t need to tell you our world is going through some problems right now. With this comes great opportunity – to offer a better way forward, to be part of the solution. As such we have already implemented the below initiatives and continue to strive to do the absolute most in sustainability.

Our Promise to the Next Generation of Kiwi’s

As a company, we will not stand by while kiwi kids live in poverty, a portion of the proceeds from every job we undertake is given to local charities at the forefront of solving these issues. Every item of jewellery you purchase from Guthrie’s will help to feed, cloth and kiwi kids and offer essential services such as medical care and educational equipment.

Ethically Sourcing Materials

All of Guthrie’s diamonds are bought using the Kimberley Process, a method which traces diamonds from mine to consumer to ensure no person was harmed in this process.

Our gemstones are sourced from local suppliers in various countries all around the world, we only purchase gemstones from people we know and trust to be ethical in every step of this process.

Our gold and platinum is between 90 – 95% recycled from existing supply, the final 5% however is mined either here or in Australia, you can read more about how we are offsetting any carbon emissions during this process.

Achieving Carbon Neutrality and Improving our Environment

Like every natural resource, the mining of our diamonds and gemstones does create carbon emissions, further to this we transport this material on planes for security reasons.

Because of this Guthrie’s purchases a native tree for every 1.00ct of diamonds or gemstones sold. The life of this tree offsets the carbon emissions created in this process by over ten times.

Plastic, Packaging & Material Waste

On our own audit we can proudly say nearly 90% of what we use is either recycled or disposed of in a way that isn’t going to harm the environment, this for us is not enough and we are focusing heavily on getting this to 100%

The process of this will take great effort, and in the mean time we ensure anything that can’t be recycled is disposed of in a way that is the least harmful to the environment.
