Choosing the Ring

When it comes to fabricating an item of fine jewellery the options are vast, it’s important to look for something that really reflects you and your partner. At Guthrie’s we go the extra mile to deliver a piece that is not only unique but timeless.

Our rings are made to be handed through generations, and accordingly we design rings that stand the test of time.

Choosing the Setting

The three main categories of rings are halo designs which include a ring of diamonds around a central stone.  A solitaire which is a single gemstone elegantly set by itself. And three stone designs, which is simply a ring set with three stones.

The best choice for you depends on your unique taste, and no matter which setting type there are many details we think through thoroughly with you to deliver an exceptionally high quality item.

Spy on Her Style

These days many couples buy their engagement ring together, however, if you would like to keep it a surprise you are going to need to do some research. We suggest spying on her existing jewellery, does she gravitate towards modern styles, or does she love vintage? Does she have any other piece, platinum, white or yellow gold? Ask her friends and family for helpful hints.

Design's That Suit your Lifestyle

A well designed piece of jewellery should be functional and be able to be worn everyday, however certain designs are naturally more wearable than others.

If your partner is in a medical profession for example, where she has to wear gloves we would recommend going for a lower setting and ideally a rub over so there are no claws to catch.

There are many factors to wearability and this is something we will discuss with you in person.

Choosing a Precious Metal

There are two main precious metal types used in fine jewellery, being Platinum or Gold. Platinum is the premium precious metal, and is priced slightly higher than gold. Platinum takes the least amount of maintenance and is naturally the strongest metal.

Yellow gold has been used for centuries as a highly desired precious metal. Yellow gold is a classic and durable option for your item. Rose Gold and White Gold are both based on Yellow Gold but have the additions of other metals to give them their unique hue.
