A most beautiful stone in the precious gem kingdom, Emerald is part of the Beryl family. Emeralds are the birthstone for the month of May. The most desirable colour being bluish green to pure green.
Due to their crystal shape, emeralds are most commonly cut as rectangular step cuts, known as emerald cut. They are a more fragile stone than a diamond or sapphire, being 7.5 – 8 on the Mohs scale.
The vast majority of emeralds are sourced from Columbia. A high grade Emerald has no visual inclusions, and is known as eye clean and flawless. A high level of transparency and a bright verdant green colour is the most desirable and adds greatly to the value of this beautiful stones.
